You may not know that:
Whitney was the only artist to ever chart seven consecutive number one Billboard Hot 100 hits in the USA. She’s also won 30 Billboard awards, 22 American Music awards and six Grammy’s in her 25 year career. If that wasn’t enough, the Guinness Book of Records states that Whitney was the most honoured female singer with over 400 awards!
Whitney’s best sisterhood moment:
Whitney’s cover of ‘I’m Every Woman’ (originally sung Chaka Khan, who had a 15 year old Houston feature on her studio album ‘Naughty’ years previously!), sees a large homage to powerful black women in music in the 90’s. She features Chaka Khan in the video as well as a baby faced TLC! The video also features black girls and women of varying age range looking happy and beautiful. Much like the entire theming of Beyoncé’s videos for Lemonade; which is exactly the sort of thing we need to see more of.
Whitney’s empowerment track:
Yeah, it’s a cover, and I’ve just dissected the video, but ‘I’m Every Woman is the epitome of empowerment track. It is the mother of all empowerment tracks. There is not a human on this planet that can truthfully say this song doesn’t fill them with joy. WOAH! WOAH! WOAH!
